NEX Team Inc - Village Project - Map Art

Share

Village Project was a cancelled game concept, and my first major project at NEX Team Inc. Village was intended to be a completely reworked version of Active Arcade, where all the games were connected through a single larger game that had social and RPG mechanics.

We were given a blank check for the visuals of game, so we went all out on our concepts and walked them down from there into a style that multiple artists could replicate and produce.

The core feature of the game would be a lively world map full of lush greenery, rustic makeshift homes, and animal friends. We were greatly inspired by the likes of Animal Crossing, Cozy Grove, Old Man’s Journey, and The Wild At Heart.

I got to brush up my concept art and character design skills, creating the various props, items, maps, characters, and playable characters the user would make use of.

In addition, I also worked on conceptualizing an additional game, the obligatory fishing game that all social sims have. I really enjoyed how I stylized the fish.

It remains my favorite project at the company, even though it failed to materialize into a full game. Working with other artists, developing this world and its characters together, was such a joy for me.

This looks so good! It’s a shame it never went into a finished project.
