What are the things you find hardest to draw?

For me: robots. And I’m not talking about the simple robots, here, no. I’m talking gundams, evas, megazords, bots with way to many details to draw out and are all blocky and geometric! You won’t catch me drawing those things unless I;m paid top dollar to. What about you guys, what are the hardest things to draw for you?

The staircase that's growth is infinite, but we should climb anyway to see how far we can go. But remember: growth starts with humility.

I would say "hands" as the obvious answer, but really it's just inconsistent. Sometimes I draw terrible hands, sometimes I draw great hands.

Gonna go out on a limb and say linework instead. I've had many a drawing go from great to terrible because the linework was such a struggle.

It's gotten to the point where I don't even bother doing proper linework and just clean up the original sketch until it looks like good linework instead.

Stop reading now. Nerd.

Hands and hair.

More than once I have contemplated drawing people with football helmets and boxing gloves for that very reason.

furries.

I've generally proven capable of drawing anything, but animals, especially furries, ruin my existence

I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to art, but for the life of me I can't draw hair.

Honestly, for me, arms and legs and their general positioning. They've always been a tough spot for me, especially trying to get the perspective looking right.

Another one for me is probably shoulders.

You can’t hold back on learning those fundamentals forever. Gotta take the plunge sometime.

Yeah, animals can be tricky. It took me a while to get them right myself.

I feel you. Hair is tough to get right, but you can’t let that stop you.

Use triangles! One point for the body connection, another for the knee/elbow, and the last for the hand/foot. This way you’ll get a better understanding of their positioning.

Horses are the bane of my existence.

A bit specific, but hard armour joints are always hell for me, particularly elbows and knees. Like, couters and poleyns and shit like you'd see on a full suit of plate armour always takes me ages to get right, even faulds are annoying to draw and all those do is sit on your hips. Something about the kinematics and geometry of overlapping metal plates is just pure agony lol, I am slowly getting better at them though.

Powered exoskeletons are even worse going by my concept sketches, the shoulders and hips on a semi-realistic design are pure nightmares with how they float away from the wearer, but I haven't done a full drawing with that sort of mechanical stuff yet. I suspect mechanical-styled robots would be similarly difficult, that's something I want to practice.

I have a hard time fitting your mother on the page.

If a woman has a big ass I find it hard to connect the legs to the upper torso without it looking wonky. It takes a lot of fiddleing around to get just right.

Tbh this applies to some other joint parts too like wrists and ankles.

Horses. The more realistic, the harder they are to draw.

Sometimes when I’m drawing in my “other” style, I find it hard to draw something thats fit in with the rest, because I can’t figure out what it’s supposed to look like

also noses

I have stolen your Fleetwood Mac 45s how does that sound

For me, there are always easy ways to cheese a lot of different things. It's just about emulating the shape of something - a clenched fist is easy when you learn not to overcomplicate the details of the thumbs or the fingers. Maybe for a digital artist or someone who does close ups that's easy - but as a traditional artist my pencils are simply far too thick to draw fingers on a character who needs to fit in the page! With that in mind, there's one thing you can't cheese. Perspective illustrations are a nightmare. I'm learning some basic perspective for highways that go off into the sunset or mountain ranges but character perspective, as someone who can't press and 'undo' button easily is just a nightmare...

Hands for sure. The human hand is every bit as complicated as the entire rest of the body.

Starting with a blank page is always the hardest part for me, I tend to struggle with composition, so technically EVERYTHING is something I find hardest to draw at that point in time. After that, it's geometric and repititious shapes.

Clothes that realistically stretch, bunch and drape. I know the rules, but all the variables regarding pose, muscle flexion, gravity, material type, thickness and weight... Accounting for them all is hard enough, getting them right is harder.
